Alex Prager

The majority of Alex Prager's work doesn't feel like photography, it feels more like watching an old film with the colours, compositions and feel. It is obvious she has been influenced by Cindy Sherman with the way her models pose and do so well. I like the saturated colours in her images, this creates a strong sense that the picture is otherworldly, a film world. This adds to the interest even more because as we know anything can happen in films, real or otherwise. I have always believed that photography is not about showing what is real and what we can already see, rather its about showing the viewer something they have never seen before, or otherwise creating a world they can be sucked into, knowing its not real life but still captivated. Films do this all the time, you watch a horror movie and know its not real, yet you still feel the tension and emotions the director wants you to feel, its an amazing talent to have. I will try and find ways to maximise the feeling of not being in the real world but still having a grounding so as not to fully let go; I think I will be able to do this by experimenting with colours, cameras, types of film, lighting and lenses to create the effect.
