Scorpio Rising (1963)

Scorpio Rising is a short film directed by Kenneth Anger centred around a biker gang and mainly one individual. Throughout the film there are parallels to a film about Jesus and constnt references to Catholicism, Nazism and biker culture.I had seen some screen shots on the web from this film and thought it would be interesting to watch. I wasn't disappointed and found some really interesting poses and shots. Due to the nature of the film there is a lot of tension, this is helped by the quick fire flicking between shots, also because this is a silent movie with just the soundtrack to hear, the visual quality of scenes has to be strong. This is what I have been looking for a in this project, stills that create tension in one image. The age of this film helps with the aesthetics of the image as well, though they are very blurry. After this I think I'm going to look at related older films, soundtrack films, silent films and film noir to get a sense of creating tension without the use of dialog and get a more photographers perspective on it.
